We provide in the link here, the spencerian (fundamental practice) letter guide sheet for those of you who decide to learn Spencerian without joining the online private class. Other letter guide sheets are also available at IAMPETH website which you can download for free.
\To those of you who are seeking guidance or want to get to know Spencerian, thank you and you are welcome to join Martha Scribes' online private class.
I have been very grateful to have learned this beautiful method directly from the Master Penman Harvest Crittenden who has been a professional lettering artist for more than 30 years. She is also a director of Spencerian Saga that is held every year in Lakehouse Inn in Geneva-On-The-Lake, Ohio, continuing the works of its founder and teacher, Master Penman Michael Sull.
How to do the course? The class will be 8 online sessions (2-2.5 hours or longer each session depends on questions that students might ask), with assignment and a choice of direct full feedback via Skype / Google Hangout / recorded video (~each student will have different video, adjusting the problems that the student has).
This class is designed for people of all skill levels who want to discover the beautiful letter form of Spencerian Script which was designed by Platt Roger Spencer in 1800s.
The class is flexible and usually not fixated to 8 sessions. It can be more depending on the achievements made in the video chat sessions. (Contact us for more information).
What will we learn? We will learn step-by-step the basic of Spencerian including lower and uppercase letter. Students are encouraged to take the assignment and send it to Martha, she will then look at the homework letter-by-letter to give students a suggestion for some improvisation in the letter form and discuss it in the next session.
We will also start learning with a pencil and then go up to the pointed pen holder. The Spencerian script is usually written with a pointed pen. However, it is not a must to use a pointed pen.
What will be needed in the class:
a mechanic pencil
a rubber eraser
Nikko G or Zebra G nib. More advanced students may use flexible nib they are comfortable with.
Pointed pen holder, preferably an oblique pen holder
Ultra fine smooth Paper, Clairefontaine, Canson or Rhodia or any paper that you have that can be used for a pointed pen and ink.
a cup of distilled water to wash off ink from the nib
Cost:Consultation session is free of charge. Other paid session will include Martha Days Guide sheets and handouts. The price will be: US$40 for only whole 8 sessions and US$48 for the full course package that includes Spencerian Practice ePad.
